WHO WE ARE

URK Holdings (URKH) is a community investment company founded as a result of the resolution taken at the Indigenous and Traditional Leaders Indaba from

28 May to 02 June 2017.

Together with its shareholder, URK Trust, which is wholly owned by the kingdoms, kingships and royal leaders in the Republic of South Africa, URKH is entrusted with the unique responsibility of building and growing the financial capital of traditional authorities to ensure the long-term future and upliftment of their local communities.

The Traditional Leaders Council and the Kingship Council are equity partners in the URK Trust which, in turn, has a majority stake in URK Investment Company. It is through this investment company that URK conducts its investment activities.

Currently, the focus of our investment is in the following sectors:

  • Financial Services and Banking
  • Mineral Resources and Beneficiation
  • Fuel Retail
  • Agriculture and Agro-processing
  • Manufacturing
  • Health Services
  • Infrastructure Services
  • Retail
  • Tourism
  • Media

The URKH represents the economic interests of 25 million South Africans living in the kingdoms, kingships and royal communities. These communities are made up of the ten Indigenous national groups: Bapedi, Batswana, Basotho, Khoi-San, amaNdebele, amaSwati, vhaTsonga/Shangaan, vhaVenda, amaXhosa and amaZulu. The Traditional Leaders Council and the Kingship Council are equity partners in the URK Trust which, in turn, is the largest shareholder in URKH.

The United Royal Kingships Holding (URKH) is different from conventional corporate social investment entities and has the advantage that it was created and is run by the royal leaders themselves. They have a sound understanding of their developmental needs and

the URKH offers an opportunity for stakeholders in the new global economy to partner with the custodians of these rich cultural and natural resources for mutually-beneficial outcomes.
